Vice President Speech
Vice President Speech: Caitlin Gilroy
Hello my fellow Americans. My name is Caitlin Gilroy and I am running for Vice President alongside presidential candidate Christina Mandato. Christina and I have a vision for America. We see hope for America. Hope that one day all this hate will go away. We see prosperity, and we see success. These past few years we have seen some tragic events take place all around the country. In schools, concerts, and right outside on the streets. We want to stop this. Our foreign policy focuses on eliminating terrorism. We can stop terrorist groups like ISIS by creating another branch in the military that will focus directly on ending terrorism. Another topic that we would like to discuss is gun control. We think that there should be stricter gun laws including more intensive background checks. In addition, we want to make our children feel safe when they walk through the school doors in the morning, we want our citizens to enjoy life instead of living in fear. We will work hard to make this happen. Lastly, we want to help better our education systems so that standardized tests and exams do not define the students capability. Students are more than just a number. I believe that we can get this done. I am a person who is hardworking, determined, patient, and caring. I will work alongside Christina to make this nation unstoppable and strong. We have hope for the future of this great nation.
Let me share my story and the reason I stand here today. I am not like most of the candidates that stood before you today. I have a different story. I come from a big family. I am the youngest of ten children. My parents are Frank and Peggy Gilroy. Two of the most kind and hardworking individuals I have ever met. My family is a big part of who I am. Being the youngest I have learned some very valuable life lessons. I have learned how to be patient, kind, compassionate, and selfless. Growing up I was always playing a sport, but when I wasn’t, I was volunteering and helping others. My parents raised my siblings and I to always help others and put them before ourselves. For example, my siblings and I would volunteer around our community. When we lived in Boston my skating club had a learn to skate for kids with disabilities. This moment was life changing. I taught kids how to ice skate with all kinds of disabilities, some of these kids had Autism, Down syndrome, and one kid was even deaf. I had the opportunity to help each and everyone of those kids, but what I didn’t realize at the time when I was in fourth grade was that those kids were helping me and teaching me something special. They taught me how to live a positive life and be happy with anything life throws my way. They showed me how to never give up, be determined, and be myself. I learned a lot from my experiences volunteering. As Vice President I will always put others needs before my own.
My biggest inspiration is not just one single person and they are not famous. My inspiration is 12 magnificent people. 12 people I’m honored to call my family. There is nothing I love more than my family. They have taught me so many things and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. My mom and dad are the most selfless and kind hearted individuals I have ever met. They are always giving back and they are always thinking of others. That’s where I got my love for volunteering and helping people. I have ten older siblings like I said before, but two of my siblings I never got to meet, Timmy and Brian. Brian passed away when he was a baby, but I can only imagine how amazing and kind he would've been. Timmy was eight years old when he passed. He passed away two weeks before his birthday on the way to his friend house right around the corner from my old house. He fell off his bike and hit his head , before anyone found him his brain was deprived of oxygen and he passed away. Timmy was someone who had an impact on every person he met. People tell me stories all the time about how he was always looking out for his family and others. Timmy was an old soul and had a huge heart. I live my life for him. I live by the words he would say to my brothers when they were mad after a sports game and those word are “try your best, never give up and always have fun.” My older brother Frankie is determined and kind. He always is watching out for his nine siblings. My brother Matt is the most hardworking and strongest person I know. Matt never gives up and gives 100% effort in everything just like I do. My brother Kevin is a sweet and intelligent person and always sees the good in every situation. My sister Shannon is very caring and outgoing. My sister Beanie is very honest and kind. Kellie is a very strong person because she has been through a lot. She was diagnosed with a disease called POTS when she was 15. She couldn't move, was always tired, and she would faint if she was standing for a long time. When she got sick her life changed. She was in high school was an honor roll student and an incredible athlete. When she got sick she couldn't do the things she once did, but she didn't stop trying. Once she got better she went right back into playing sports and going back to school. She was still the same athlete and student and never got frustrated. She always stayed positive. Kellie still has POTS and she will have this disease for the rest of her life. Nowadays, Kellie is becoming a nurse and is an honors student in nursing school. My brother Mikey. Mikey is the type of kid you meet and can’t forget. He has such a big heart and he is very kind and selfless as well. He can make anyone smile and can make anyone’s day better. My family is hardworking, compassionate, determined, and kind just to name a few traits they have. Every single family member had inspired me in some way. They have helped me see the world in a different way and to stay focused and push through tough times. As vice president I will bring every single trait that my siblings have taught me to office. I will be open minded, selfless, caring, strong, and I will never give up on America.
As I mentioned in the beginning our goal is to make America unstoppable and prosper. I know that my life experiences, especially volunteering and life lessons my family has taught me will help me run this nation with Christina. We will be honest and not hide anything. We will work hard to make America a place where people aren't afraid to go out and enjoy their lives and our children will not be scared to walk into school. America will be a united nation where there is no discrimination. We will make sure these things don’t happen because we will do anything to make our people feel safe. Our foreign policy deals with stopping terrorism. America will not tolerate any attacks because we will work hard so that our people are protected. In addition, new gun control laws will better our nation because we will make it harder for people to get these dangerous weapons and use them in harmful ways. Also, we will work hard to make our education systems better to help students. We understand that kids struggle with test and their scores don't reflect their actual grades. Some kids maybe getting grades in the 80’s but they study and work hard everyday, hand in their homework, and they are good kids and students. Those kids shouldn't be defined by a standardized test or regents or even a college entrance exam grade. We will work to help kids reach that potential in our education systems. I will be patient and I will be more than willing to help those kids. I will bring everything I have learned in my life and all of the traits my siblings have taught me and put them into use as vice president. Christina and I want to show other nations that we stand as one and that America is strong and unbeatable. We want to show people what the real American dream is. Thank you for your time and enjoy the rest of your day.
