President Speech
Hello my fellow Americans. My name is Christina Mandato and I am running to become your new president. I am determined, courageous, and willing to undertake new and daring enterprises. I have a vision to make America a bigger and brighter nation.
I come from a compassionate and supportive family that have helped me become the women standing before you today. Since I was a child, my parents have taught me to put myself in other people's shoes. No one truly knows what is going on in anyone’s life which is why we all need to have respect and empathy for each other. One very special person in my life was my grandfather. He led a good-natured and empathetic life by always teaching and inspiring others everyday. He unfortunately passed away not too long ago, but he continues to inspire me to impact everyone's life for the better. When I was 14, he became ill and lost the ability to speak effectively. At first he was able to form full sentences and speak normally as he always did. I didn't think anything of it really just that he was getting older and that it was normal. Within a few months my family noticed a huge decline in his speaking patterns and the way he behaved. He was unable to communicate as well as he used to and it devastated my entire family. Although he was affected greatly by this illness, his personality shined through and he was able to make the best of it. A few years later he was unable to live at home anymore and had to be moved into the hospital. My grandfather was only in the hospital for about a week before he passed away with my grandmother right by his side. What inspires me the most about him was his positivity through it all. He pushed through as hard as he could and didn't let a disease define who he was on the inside. I aspire to be as positive and kind-hearted as him, despite whatever obstacle is thrown my way. If I were to be elected president, I will run America with a positive attitude, inspiring each and every citizen to follow my lead and to help America become a better nation overall.
Throughout my time at Mepham High School, I have participated in the Skull and Bones drama club for a total of 4 years. It has been an unforgettable experience and helped me grow as an individual. I learned how to be grateful and to except any role that is given to me. I believe that if I am President, I will be able to contribute all of the factors that I’ve learned from the drama club to steer this country in the right direction. The faculty at Mepham helped me realize that I am capable of achieving so much. Mepham isn’t just any high school, it’s a place where you can work hard to achieve your goals for the future. A place where you are safe to learn and focus on what is most important to you. The security guards work diligently to keep our grounds safe and clear. At this point in history, with all of the tragic school shootings, this is extremely important. Mepham has recently updated their security due to the increase of school shootings. Although it is a minor change, it can and will make a major difference. I would like every single school to be like this. I believe that all schools must update their security so that we can put the safety of our students first. We as Americans, do not want our children fearing school because they are our future and deserve to get an education. Thank you to the faculty of Mepham for teaching me how to be a strong, fearless leader and that I can achieve anything I set my mind to. I am truly inspired by all.
This country has faced many hardships recently making it hard for the civilians to live normal lives. Our country has lost many innocent lives due to gun violence, including parents, students, friends, colleagues, and neighbors. Imagine, it is just an ordinary school day or maybe you’re on your way to your favorite concert. You have not a fear or doubt in your mind. All of a sudden you hear a gunshot. You’re paralyzed in fear and haven’t the slightest clue what to do. Imagine being a small child watching your classmate or teacher die in front of you. No words can describe the scene you just saw. You will never forget it. Gun laws need to be changed, both for us and for the children of our country. For example, Sandy Hook Elementary School. The 28 kids that died during that shooting would’ve been in 6th grade today. These kids would have grown up and done amazing things, but because of the gun laws we have in place right now their lives were cut short. A few short months ago, 17 students died during the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Many of the survivors tell their story about where they were and what they saw. These brave students are now inspiring people all over the country to fight for better gun laws. This has gone on way too long. Our plan is to make sure there will be more intensive background checks and it will make it harder for people to purchase these dangerous weapons because America can’t afford to lose more innocent lives.
Another issue I would like to address is our foreign policy. One of the biggest issues in America is terrorism. Our people aren’t just afraid of guns, but they fear the rise of new terrorist organizations such as ISIS, who have targeted Americans more and more recently. If I was president, I would want my country free from fear and distress. Unfortunately, with the many threats of ISIS invading our territory, it has grown increasingly difficult for all to live normal lives, that is why I would like create a separate branch of the military focusing mainly on eliminating terrorism around the globe in order to protect our people. It is crucial that we stick together in these troubling times. As for North Korea, we need to attempt to reason with them and bring up demilitarization. We are unsure about the types of nuclear weapons they may possess which is why when dealing with North Korea, we need to remain cautious. I believe that by talking with them we can try to negotiate a new plan for the country of North Korea. Both of these topics regarding foreign policy are very important to me.
I would also like to discuss our education system. A proper education is needed in order to become successful in the future. Although education is a crucial part in many childrens lives, it does take a toll on them. For example, standardized tests, regents, and college entrance exams are designed to show how knowledgeable a student is, but instead they can hurt them in a variety of ways. The grades are said to be a reflection of teachers and the students themselves. Is this fair? If a student is very smart and does well in the class however isn’t the strongest test taker, it wouldn’t be fair to base their intelligence level off of it. Additionally, a teacher might be great at their job, but when theses tests come around with questions on it that were not taught, it reflects poorly on them. I believe that these specific tests should not be able to define a students capability and intelligence. These tests will still be given, but the students and teachers will not be judged on their performance. Class participation, homeworks, and only the tests given in class by the teacher should all count equally towards the students overall grade.
Our country needs help and I will be there for you, fighting every step of the way, making you feel secure. We need to join together as one, we need to be strong as a nation. Together we can be fearless again, and together we can make a difference. Thank you and have a wonderful day.
